Chance & Counters

Chance & Counters is the place to go to enjoy some food,

drinks and a play board game or two.

If you’re looking to try something different, then Chance & Counters should definitely be on the top of your list for a visit.

Welcome to Bristol’s only dedicated board game cafe, tucked away at the bottom of Christmas Steps in the city centre of Bristol. This unique concept offers people a place to immerse themselves in the world of board games, while trying some tasty food and drinks.

It was created by three friends, who all shared an interest in business and a passion for board games, and were able to combine the two in to a very successful concept. Chance and Counters has quickly become a popular destination and once you pay a visit, its easy to see why.

For £5 a head you can reserve a table for 4 hours and entertain yourselves with a large selection of games. The cafe holds over 600 different board games for you and your friends to play, with a genre for every taste. The staff are extremely friendly and their expertise in the games themselves will help you out if you’re feeling a bit lost – the selection of available games is vast. One I would definitely recommend to play is Scrawl. I won’t give anything away, but it had everyone in stitches, especially after a few drinks. Although beware – the game is definitely not for prudes!

Even the tables have been built to ensure your gaming experience runs smoothly, with shelves set under the table to store your board game boxes. There are also wooden drinks holders that sit on the side so you can keep them off the table and make room for some extra food. These little special touches demonstrate the amount of thought and consideration that has gone in to creating this place and if you like novel and fun days out should definitely be on your to do this.

The menu offers a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan choices, and they cater for gluten free too. Most options can also be mixed and matched, or altered to fit dietary needs and the staff were always on hand to help suggest options, or advise what selections can be changed to suit your tastes . A few things I tried were;

-Roast Beetroot, Smoked Paprika Tofu & Salsa Verde Bruschetta,

-Smoked Paprika Tofu, Smashed Avocado & Chilli Wrap,

-Nachos, Smashed Avocado & Salsa,

-Chilli and Garlic Olives

Chance and Counters is a place I would recommend to everyone, whether living in or just visiting Bristol. The rustic tables and quirky décor, create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and is a fantastic idea if you fancy something a bit different.

      Bristol has always majored on the quirky, and Chance Counters on Christmas Steps certainly fits into that category nicely . it’s the only place you can enjoy a grilled Wookey Hole aged Cheddar and tomato panini whilst playing Connect 4.
