McDonald’s launches the “McPlant”
Its finally happened – McDonald’s has launched is own vegan burger…the “McPlant”.
The burger is in collaboration with Beyond Meat and even comes accompanied with vegan cheese, which they boast as being “just the same as McDonald’s own”. However, you’ll need to hold on if you were just putting your shoes on to go out and grab one for yourself, as they are only being trialled in 250 restaurants across the UK at the moment, with plans to go national in 2022, hopefully in time for Veganuary.
McDonald’s has confirmed that the vegan burger is cooked separately from other meat and non-vegan items, with separate utensils, and has even been certified by the Vegetarian Society, unlike Burger King which was criticised when they brought out their plant-based burger as they announced it would be cooked alongside other meat products.
A study by The Vegan Society found that 43% of people have reduced their meat consumption over the past 12 months, due to the environmental impact, health concerns or animal rights.
With the demand for vegan products skyrocketing since the pandemic, McDonald’s joins a number of other large chains such as KFC, Burger King and Nando’s, who have also added plant-based items to their menus to try and meet the growing popularity for meat alternatives.
