Seaspiracy – Documentary Review
Seaspiracy is the new Netflix documentary exposing the industries that are destroying our oceans, and the charities that are used to deceive the public into buying products that are classed as “sustainable”.
From the same creates of Cowspiracy, Seaspiracy takes viewers on an eye-opening and emotional journey into the destructive and criminal organisations that are one of the main reasons behind our depleting oceans.
The documentary, directed by Ali Tabrizi, begins its journey by looking into the devastating impact on the amount of plastics being dumped into our oceans every year and the huge effect that this is having on our wild life.
Ali then starts to look deeper into some of the animals being affected by plastic waste, whales and dolphins. This inevitably leads him and his partner to travel to Japan, who had announced in 2019 that they would be withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission (IWC) and would begin commercial whale hunting. From there, Ali begins to delve further into the fishing industry and the loopholes used to exploit them for financial gain, at the expense of the planet.
The documentary continues to take further twists and turns, uncovering and highlighting how some charities – who claim to be trying to reduce ocean plastics – are intertwined with other companies linked to the fishing industries, and therefore are refusing to have an open discussion around how not eating fish is one of the best ways to help save our oceans.
With studies showing that the oceans help absorb over a quarter of the CO2 emissions that humans create, it is now more important than ever that a greater effort is made to help restore and protect our seas.
Seaspiracy is a must watch documentary that uncovers the alarming global corruption that is being done to our plant and will hopefully open people’s eyes and their hearts to embrace change and take the steps needed to help save our future.
